What’s God Want?
So, I’ve been thinking. In the whole eternal scheme of things, I think all God really wants is you. In all the vastness of creation, all God wants is me, Robert from Marshfield, Missouri. You don’t have to try to be someone else or to be like other people because God needs you to be you. That’s pretty cool if you think about it. And what’s really cool is that it’s this God who has given himself totally to you, and the gift God wants from you this day and every day is for you and me to be totally His. It’s to wake up every morning and say, “Lord, I am no longer my own, but I am yours.” You see in the grand scheme of things, what God wants is a humble surrendering of our lives to him.
As I was thinking about that, I ran across this prayer that I slightly amended. It’s a great prayer of surrender to God. It’s words that I think will take a life time of trying again and again to live into, and however imperfectly we may live out these words, may this be our prayer:
Lord, I am totally yours. Live in me. Act in me. Speak in me and through me. Think your thoughts in my mind. Love through my heart. Give me your dispositions and feelings.
Teach, lead me and guide me to you. Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behavior.
Possess my soul. Take over my entire personality and life. Replace it with Yourself. Incline my heart to adore you. Pray in me and through me. Let me live in you and keep in this union always.
Joy and Peace,
